Country’s first carbon neutral farm established in Kerala: A seed farm located in Aluva was declared the country’s first carbon neutral farm by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. This seed farm, which comes under the Department of Agriculture, has helped by a significant reduction in carbon emissions and has achieved the status of carbon neutral.
- The total carbon emission from the farm in the last one year was 43 tonnes, while its total receipt was 213 tonnes. The farm generated 170 tons more carbon than the emission rate, which helped it become the country’s first carbon neutral farm. The agricultural sector contributes 30 percent to green gas emissions, which can be prevented and climate change can be regularized through carbon neutral agriculture.
- Efforts have already been started to make 13 farms carbon neutral in the state. Carbon neutral forms will be set up in all 140 assembly constituencies. Carbon neutral method will be implemented through women groups and such intervention will also be done in tribal area.
- Net Zero Emissions Or Carbon Neutral.
- It started around the year 2019 during COP-25, when the Paris Agreement had one year left to enter into force. It refers to balancing anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions globally or regionally with anthropogenic neutralization of greenhouse gases.
- The US, UK and EU have announced to achieve net zero emissions around the year 2050. Combined, these two landmasses and China would emit at least 20% more carbon dioxide than is available to the world to keep warming below 1.5 °C.
